Shauna Leigh Baker was born on 5 February, 1989 at Fairfax Hospital in Virginia. After living briefly in the country in New Market, she moved to Arlington, where she lived with her mother and grandfather. She began school aged three and after her parents' divorce was enrolled in a local private school. Her mother was re-married on 12 March, 2003, when Shauna choose to add her stepfather's last name to her own for everyday use. She became Shauna Baker-Karl, and her friends took to calling her SBK or Shauna B. Shauna's legal name change was granted by a judge on 28 February 2007.

Shauna first went to pre-school and elementary school in Arlington, Virginia less than five minutes from Washington, D.C. and later in Fairfax. She attended public schools through half of sixth grade and was then enrolled in Bethlehem Baptist Christian Academy. After her time there, she spent one and a half years at home homeschooling and recovering from injuries sustained in a car accident in eigth grade. After turning down acceptance to board at Houghton Academy in New York, she enrolled at Trinity Christian School, where she is currently a senior and will graduate in June of 2008.

As a young child, Shauna participated in a wide range of sports, including softball, soccer, ice skating and, more serisouly, gymnastics. After beginning to ride horses at the age of eight, her time became more limited and she dropped our of gymnastics training to devote her time and attention to her riding career. Becoming slightly competitive at around her ninth birthday, she switched from the precision-testing hunter/jumpers and took up the more forward, fast-paced sport of eventing aged eleven. She recieved her first event horse, Teddy (laster registered to compete under Shauna's choosen names of Royal T. and Harmony Bay) as a gift from her mother twenty-two days after her thirteenth birthday. She moved him to Full Cry Stables at the beginning of 2003, a matter of days before she was able to resume riding him following her car accident injuries having caused her a six-month lay-off. Full Cry burned to the ground, killing Shauna's Teddy and his barnmates, on 26 October 2005.

Following the fire, Shauna has been able to focus on pursuing competitive equestrian polo, a sport she took up in the fall of 2004. Due to the huge time constraints, she does no other sports. She does sing in her school choir and enjoys a lively social life at school, watching her friends play in sporting events and serving on committees whenever possible. In her spare time, she enjoys designing websites, and most of her websites are undertaken under the guidance of Chicago stage actress Lina Vong (www.linavong.com). During the summer months, she works actively with the Northern Virginia Therapuetic Riding Program.

Shauna has two sisters, Katherine Marie Walker and Michelle Renee, and one nephew, Kathryne's son Tyler. She also has four stepsisters: Melanie, Rachel, Jennifer, and Stephanie, and stepnieces and nephews: Samantha, Zachary, Tabatha, Alysa, and Avonte. At her home in Fairfax she lives with her mother, stepfather, and has a dog and four cats.
